Consulting services
Doug provides Geological consulting services in the evaluation of drill cuttings from oil and gas wells to estimate effective porosity and permeability. Main area of expertise is in clastics in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. He has a network of associates that provide other drill cutting and core evaluation services.

Courses
Since 1995 Doug has offered “Estimating Porosity and Permeability in Drill Cuttings” workshops. These are routinely offered in a 3 day format and held in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. In-house courses in a 2 day or 3 day format can also be arranged. Full details of the course can be found under "courses".

Microscope Sales
Doug has been a daily user of Stereo microscopes since he began looking at rock samples in 1983. When he began teaching the course in 1995 he realized that many Geologists were attempting to do detailed examination of samples with some pretty old and inadequate microscopes, therefore he saw the demand for higher quality microscopes. As oil and gas well drilling in Canada encounters lower and lower quality reservoirs, the demand for higher quality microscopes to examine them increases. For this reason Doug started Quality Microscopes Ltd in December 2004 to provide high quality instruments. His main line is Zeiss Stereomicroscopes, and he is an authorized dealer for Carl Zeiss Canada Ltd.
